Sitestash is the result of years of hosting experience by the owners, whose combined knowledge has formed a quality hosting provider. We watch day in and day out as low standard hosting providers come and go while we are striving to be a quality provider in the middle of it all.
Sitestash was created and geared more towards experienced users not requiring a large amount of support, thus giving us more time to focus on reliability and quality of the servers and network.
Sitestash web servers are built custom by us, and use the highest quality parts. Unlike typical providers who simply rent a server built from cheap desktop parts, we own, build, and maintain all of our equipment. Our servers use true server grade system boards and hardware, we do not use off the shelf desktop PC parts to save money. We build our servers for maximum performance and long term 24/7 reliability, we don't want them to have problems anymore than our customers do.
Typical Sitestash web server components include the following:
- Supermicro rack mount cases w/hotswap drive bays
- Supermicro system boards
- Pentium D or Xeon processors
- Western Digital RE SATA II NCQ hard drives
- 3Ware SATA-II RAID Cards
- Kingston HyperX memory chips
- Long life ball bearing cooling fans
- IPMI 2.0 Server Health Monitoring cards
We maintain an onsite stock of spare parts for all of our servers.
All servers have internal backup drives for daily backups, those backups are also copied over to a multi-terabyte storage server. We archive backups up to 30 days, we also offer custom backup plans for users needing to archive past 30 days.
Sitestash also owns its data center space, and network equipment. When an issue arises we are your first and last line of contact for any and all problems relating to our equipment. We don't play “pass the customer”, your problem is our problem and we deal with it as rapidly as humanly possible.
Our primary network downlinks from our provider's network routers feed into Cisco 3750 switches, which is then distributed down to Cisco 2950 switches feeding the servers. We maintain spare unused ports on all network switches in the event of port failure, and also spare switches by themselves.
Sitestash web servers are connected to the internet via dedicated 100Mbit ports, and are monitored to ensure they are delivering the fastest data flow possible.
We maintain a low site to server ratio in order to keep servers from running high load, and to provide plenty of extra CPU time for occasional traffic spikes. Unlike other providers who pack every site they can on the server, we’ve found it’s better to have two half loaded servers rather than one fully loaded server. Each server is only loaded to a specific threshold before we stop adding accounts to it. We leave room for the current sites on the server to grow, with plenty of spare memory and CPU resources available to power the sites as they grow.
